Check liability exposure
US Liability Renewal Checklist
US casualty, umbrella, and excess renewals are increasingly shaped by claim severity, venue risk, plaintiff strategies, and the availability of capacity. The goal is to show that the account is controlled before the underwriter has to ask.
Documents to prepare
- Five-year loss runs with paid, reserve, incurred, open/closed status, and claim descriptions.
- Safety manuals, driver controls, incident response logs, training records, and corrective actions.
- Contracts, indemnity wording, certificates, additional insured requirements, and subcontractor controls.
- Current primary, umbrella, and excess limits with deductibles, SIRs, exclusions, and attachment points.
Questions to ask before renewal
Which venues or states drive severity? Are large losses closed or still reserved? Do contracts transfer risk properly? Are limits still enough for the industry, fleet size, revenue, and claim history?
